Clin d'œil Opticiens (AUROR DIFFUSION)

CriticalReportedRetail

Clin d'œil Opticiens, a retail brand operated by AUROR DIFFUSION, informed its current and former customers that a file containing their personal data had been published online without authorisation. The file includes surnames, first names and gender, dates of birth, postal addresses, phone numbers, email addresses and social security numbers. The company says checks are still under way on possible optical follow-up or supplementary health insurance information, whose disclosure has not been established so far. The number of people affected, the date of the incident and its origin have not been disclosed; the incident was notified to the French data protection authority (CNIL).

The combination of identity, date of birth, contact details and social security number can be used for targeted phishing, fraudulent calls impersonating health or insurance bodies, and identity theft.

Exposed data

  • Full name
  • Identity document
  • Date of birth
  • Postal address
  • Phone number
  • Email address
  • Social security number

You are only affected if you had an account or an order with this organisation.

What you can do

  • Expect phishing attempts quoting your name and this company. A message that knows your details is not legitimate for that reason.
  • These documents enable identity theft, and cannot be reissued at will. Keep the notification letter: it proves where the leak came from if an account is opened in your name.
  • You can ask the organisation exactly what was exposed about you (right of access), and complain to the DPA if no answer comes within a month.
