Boston Children's Health Physicians

CriticalConfirmedHealthcare

The attorneys general of New York and Connecticut announced on 16 October 2026 a $2.7 million settlement with Boston Children's Health Physicians, a pediatric network, and with Xtium, its IT provider. According to them, Xtium suffered an intrusion in August 2024 that gave access to the networks of 18 of its clients, including the pediatric network's. The records of about 825,000 New York residents and 62,871 Connecticut residents are affected, including Social Security numbers and medical information. The settlement also includes a corrective action plan on data security.

A Social Security number combined with medical information lets a malicious third party commit identity theft or build targeted fraud.

Exposed data

  • Social security number
  • Health data

You are only affected if you had an account or an order with this organisation.

What you can do

  • These documents enable identity theft, and cannot be reissued at will. Keep the notification letter: it proves where the leak came from if an account is opened in your name.
  • Health data is “special category” data under the GDPR: a leak opens a right to compensation, and the organisation must notify the DPA within 72 hours.
  • You can ask the organisation exactly what was exposed about you (right of access), and complain to the DPA if no answer comes within a month.
