Shinhan Bank
CriticalConfirmedBanking and finance
Shinhan Bank reported on 1 October 2026 a breach affecting about 25,000 customers. The unauthorised access, which took place between 29 and 30 September 2026, targeted a platform used by loan agents and reportedly bypassed the usual identity verification. The exposed data includes names, phone numbers, annual income and loan limits, along with resident registration numbers for 66 people. South Korea's president subsequently ordered a thorough investigation into a series of incidents at several financial institutions.
This information allows a malicious third party to run targeted phishing or solicitation attempts posing as the bank or a loan broker.

What you can do
- Expect phishing attempts quoting your name and this company. A message that knows your details is not legitimate for that reason.
- These documents enable identity theft, and cannot be reissued at will. Keep the notification letter: it proves where the leak came from if an account is opened in your name.
- You can ask the organisation exactly what was exposed about you (right of access), and complain to the DPA if no answer comes within a month.
