Point Vision
CriticalConfirmedHealthcare
Point Vision, a French network of ophthalmology clinics, notified patients of unauthorized access to the IT environment of the third party that manages the network's appointment scheduling. The exposed data includes patients' name, date of birth, postal address, email address, phone number, and national ID (social security) number for those who had booked appointments. Point Vision states that the systems holding medical records are separate from the compromised environment and were not affected.
The combination of name, date of birth, contact details and social security number enables identity theft attempts and phishing messages that can credibly impersonate the clinic or the health insurance system.

What you can do
- Expect phishing attempts quoting your name and this company. A message that knows your details is not legitimate for that reason.
- These documents enable identity theft, and cannot be reissued at will. Keep the notification letter: it proves where the leak came from if an account is opened in your name.
- You can ask the organisation exactly what was exposed about you (right of access), and complain to the DPA if no answer comes within a month.
