Revolut
CriticalConfirmedBanking and finance
Revolut disclosed sensitive personal data of some customers to an unauthorised third party after receiving a request that appeared to come from a government agency, sent from that agency's genuine email domain and carrying valid authentication credentials. The incident, disclosed on 12 September 2026, affected a limited number of customers, whom the company says it contacted directly. Exposed data may include identity and contact details, copies of passports or driving licences, a verification selfie, and financial information such as IBAN, account status and opening date, and transaction history. Revolut states its own systems were not breached and customer funds were not affected.
The exposed identity documents, verification selfie and financial data could allow a third party to impersonate affected individuals or prepare targeted fraud attempts against their accounts.

What you can do
- Expect phishing attempts quoting your name and this company. A message that knows your details is not legitimate for that reason.
- Watch your statements. On any unknown debit, block the card and request a refund — French law (art. L133-18) entitles you to it.
- These documents enable identity theft, and cannot be reissued at will. Keep the notification letter: it proves where the leak came from if an account is opened in your name.
- You can ask the organisation exactly what was exposed about you (right of access), and complain to the DPA if no answer comes within a month.
